PRP plasma treatment, also known as Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy, is a non-surgical treatment that uses a patient’s own blood to promote healing and rejuvenation in the body. The process involves taking a small amount of the patient’s blood, spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the plasma and platelets from the other components of the blood, and then injecting the concentrated plasma and platelets into the targeted area. The platelets contain growth factors that stimulate the body’s natural healing processes, helping to reduce inflammation and pain, and improve tissue regeneration. PRP plasma treatment can be used for a variety of conditions, including joint pain, sports injuries, hair loss, and skin rejuvenation.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is blood plasma that contains a concentrated source of autologous platelets.
The platelets collected in PRP are activated by adding thrombin and calcium chloride which induces the release of these factors by degranulation of the alpha granules produced. Several forms of PRP or PRP-derived products exist for different conditions. PRP can be liquid or gel formed but a fibrin matrix is often used for meniscus repair, rotator cuff injury, and ACL reconstruction. PRP contains stem cells that are concentrated which allows for cell division for growth as well as being able to attract additional stem cells to the repair site. Regeneration occurs within the tissues and fibrils ensues while initiating growth and repair for up to (1) month after these injections. The result is new, healthy tissues that is permanent and is used aesthetically or medically dependent upon patient presentation.
